Join JWI and the Alliance for Immigrant Survivors (AIS) for a webinar to learn more about how recent policy changes impact immigrant survivors of domestic violence, sexual assault, dating violence, human trafficking, and stalking. We will discuss safety planning practices, guidance for programs serving survivors, as well as identify additional resources to provide comprehensive support for survivors.
Presenter Bios
Casey Carter Swegman is the Director of Public Policy at Tahirih. Casey is responsible for leading Tahirih’s state and federal policy advocacy focused on improving protections for immigrant survivors while simultaneously seeking long-term, systemic change. She also oversees Tahirih’s Forced Marriage Initiative which provides direct services to survivors across the country, training and technical assistance to service providers and advocates nationally. Prior to joining Tahirih she worked in the field of refugee resettlement with the International Rescue Committee and Church World Service.
Cecelia Friedman Levin is the Advocacy Coordinator for the Alliance for Immigrant Survivors. Prior to this position, Cecelia worked as a policy analyst with the U.S. Citizenship and Immigration Services, focusing on humanitarian immigration protections. Cecelia has also served as Policy Director at ASISTA, a national non-profit focusing on training, technical assistance and advocacy related to immigration protections for survivors of violence. She also has provided legal representation to survivors as an attorney with Ayuda and Women Empowered Against Violence (WEAVE) in the Washington, DC area. She holds a B.A. in International Studies and Women and Gender Studies from American University, and a J.D. from American University, Washington College of Law.
