Have you been approached by someone in your community for support with domestic abuse?
Do you believe people feel comfortable seeking your help for domestic abuse?
Do you feel confident guiding and supporting someone facing domestic abuse?
Purpose:
In JWI’s 2021 Needs Assessment, 72% of Jewish domestic abuse survivors cited lack of support from clergy as a major barrier to escaping abuse. Clergy play a unique and vital role in supporting survivors—both by responding effectively when abuse is disclosed and by speaking out to encourage survivors to come forward. Survivors are more likely to seek help when rabbis have spoken out about abuse. Continued education for clergy is crucial for effective intervention and long-term healing.
Workshop Description:
This interactive workshop, held on Apr 2, 2025 at 10:00 AM, will equip clergy in Columbus with tools and knowledge to support domestic abuse survivors and foster a culture where survivors feel safe coming forward.
Key Questions Answered:
What are the warning signs of domestic abuse?
What barriers do Jewish survivors face when asking for help?
What should you do if you suspect abuse or if a survivor discloses abuse to you?
How do you encourage survivors to come forward?
