LET'S GET TO WORK: Civic action to-do list for 5-22-17
3. Resist Trump’s Budget
On Tuesday, the Administration will release its budget calling for massive cuts to entitlement programs like Medicaid, the Supplemental Nutrition Assistance Program (SNAP), and Social Security’s Supplemental Security Income. Taking away healthcare, food, and financial security from the most vulnerable in our country is an egregious act. Call your members of Congress and tell them that this budget is unacceptable.
2. Protect Healthcare
The Congressional Budget Office (CBO) will release its report on Wednesday about the devastating American Health Care Act (AHCA). The proposed replacement to the Obama administration’s Affordable Care Act (ACA) passed the House earlier this month and is moving on to the Senate. Advocates anticipate that the CBO’s findings will show nearly 24 million Americans will lose their healthcare in the next 10 years. The CBO is also likely to outline a drastic increase in premiums for women, the elderly, and those with pre-existing conditions. Contact your senators and tell them the AHCA should be thrown in the trash.
